Ceramic figures

Both me and Frida collects animal figures, mostly porcelain. But recently I've decided to sell a lot of my figures and start over. I feel more for the ceramic figures from the 50s and preferably the ones made by Swedish designer such as Mari Simmulson, Gunnar Nylund, Thomas Hellström and my new favorite KE Iwar. Lisa Larsson is of course big in this area as well, but there are so many collecting her animals I don't enjoy it as much anymore. Call me pretentious, but I like to collect the more unusual things...
So, here are a bit of my collection so far and some more objects I would like to have.

My Collection:

Deers in the back from Uppsala Ekeby
Deer in the middle Thomas Hellström, Nittsjö
Deer in the front Tore Borg

Birds from unknown designers
Poodles from Lisa Larsson

This one is on it's way on the post, deer by Karl Erik Iwar

KE Iwar
This one I also just bought on tradera, poodle by KE Iwar
Not animals, but my collection of Uppsala Ekeby vases

And here are some more figures that I like:

More animals by Thomas Hellström
Owls by Mari Simmulson, Uppsala Ekeby
African animals from Uppsala Ekeby
Bear by KE Iwar
Gunnar Nylund done a lot of animals for Rörstrand, here is his monkey

"More is more and less is a bore" - Iris Apfel

I found an old article published in AD about Iris Apfel's New York apartment through the blog Advanced style. For you who don't know, Iris is an American interior designer and fashion icon. She turned 92 a couple of months ago and she has been listed as one of the fifty best dressed over 50s by the Guardian. I've seen Iris on a lot of photos related to fashion but never seen her home. It turned out to be just as colorful and imaginative as her clothes. A mix of colors and objects and just to much and I love it! I always said to my boyfriend that my vision about our apartment is that I want it to look like it belonged to a crazy lady in New York, I think I found her! She is also the one who established the concept: More is more and less is bore! I so agree!!!

Wild furniture!

We love animals, everything that has to do with animals! Animals on porcelain, animal figures, animal wallpapers, animals on textiles and now animal furniture! When I started to look on Pinterest I found that there's a lot of fun furniture out there with a wild touch. I discovered the French married couple Les Lalanne, Francois-Xavier Lalanne and Claude Lalanne, that really fascinated me. The couple began to have exhibitions in the 50s but became known to the Parisian public in the 60s when Yves Saint Laurent commissioned them. They became known to a larger public in the 70s when Serge Gainsbourg selected a work by Francois-Xavier for his album cover. They were inspired by both animals and vegetation and some has described their work as an ode to surrealism and Art nouveau.

Below you find some of their work and some other furniture with animal inspiration. If you want to go more hardcore, there are also plenty of vintage furniture made out of real animals! But that's another story...

Sunday inspiration; Magda Boreysza

I found this Swedish Polish illustrator based in Edinburgh UK on pinterest. I think her work is amazing! Most of all I like her animal illustrations on vintage plates, they are so beautiful! This is how she describes her work:
"I create mysterious little worlds within my images, and characters that populate those worlds. When I draw, I find inspiration in medieval and surrealist art as well as in patterns found in nature."

If you want to buy her illustrations or plates visit her shop on Etsy! For more info check out her website and blog:

A touch of yellow!

A color you start to see more of is definitively yellow, especially this bright lemon yellow. And used as an accent color; a wall, a door, a chair or something else that will stick out in the room. It's especially nice together with white or other neutrals that stands in contrast to it's brightness. So if you want to add something new to your home, go for a touch of yellow!
