More is more; Tony Duquette

I found a book I want the other day. It's a book about Tony Duquette. I've never heard about him before I found some pictures on Pinterest. He was an American designer that lived and worked in LA. He designed costumes and settings for movies, interiors, jewellery and special furnishing. He also created interiors for numerous night clubs, public places and private properties. He loved richness, drama, ornament and individuality. His house in Beverly Hills, "Dawnridge" is now a museum. He began to build it in 1949 together with his wife Elisabeth and worked on it for the rest of his life. They created a home that was grandiose and overstated with gilded lilies, leopard patterns, rock crystals and endless rococo paintings. Each space was a pastiche of Duquette's passions: Chinoiserie, gold-leafed trays, Louis XV chairs and Japanese brocades. Judging by the pictures it looks beyond words! It has that special combination of colors and crazy objects that only an eccentric still genius person can put together. I really would like to go there and see it in reality, but in the meantime I'm going to buy the book for my self as a Christmas gift!
